EDITING AND PROOF-READING

Editing and Proof-reading

Need editorial support to get the best out of your manuscript? Or just need help with the finishing touches? I provide a range of editorial services to help you hone your manuscript so it's the best it can possibly be.

If you are considering seeking publication for your manuscript, whether that be through traditional publication methods or via self-publishing, it's advisable to seek editorial support.  At the very least, it's vital that your work is fully proof-read to make sure that it is readable and professionally and consistently presented.  My editorial services range from final proof-reading through to full content editorial support.

Proof-reading service

As a proof-reader, my job is simply to carefully check your manuscript and to eliminate from it any errors, for instance in spelling, grammar or punctuation.  This service is therefore ideal for you if you are happy with the content of your manuscript, but need a final check of it for mistakes. During the proof-reading process, I also check for consistency in the manuscript, for instance in terms of use of formatting (such as use of italics, capital letters, inverted commas, etc.), layout and presentation.

Fee: £25 per hour.

(As time spent on proof-reading can differ greatly depending on the work, I will give you an estimate of the overall cost at the beginning of the process, based upon the manuscript.  As a guide, a 50,000 word manuscript would usually take 10 hours to proof-read, and so would cost £250 to proof-read in total.)

Full editorial support

Full editorial support includes all of the services offered in my proof-reading package, but with the addition of content editing.  So, not only is your manuscript checked for errors and consistency, it is also examined in relation to wording, length and clarity.  As an editor, I advise on possible cuts to the content, areas where wording needs to be amended or developed, and instances of repetition or omission.  This service is therefore especially useful to you if you are looking to reduce your word count, for instance to meet a target length.

Fee: £30 per hour.

(As with proof-reading, time spent on editing can differ greatly depending on the work, so I will give you an estimate of the overall cost at the beginning of the process, based upon the manuscript.  As a guide, a 50,000 word manuscript would usually take 12 hours to edit, and so would cost £360 to edit in total.)
